This month, I’d like to introduce you to Major Kim Stambaugh of The Salvation Army Boise Corps. Major Kim and her husband Major Tom Stambaugh arrived in Boise from their previous post in Guam this past July. It has been a pleasure getting to know Major Kim as we work towards to common goal of serving young parents in the Treasure Valley.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello my name is Kimberly Stambaugh. I am the Corps Officer of the Boise Corps and Treasure Valley Coordinator. My husband and I have been officers in the Salvation Army Western Territory for 18 years with various appointments in Northern California. We recently arrived to Boise July of 2020 from serving on the islands of Guam and Micronesian Islands for 4 years.
Our journey as Salvation Army officers has provided us many opportunities to provide leadership over direct services to various populations and demographics. Each experience has been unique and very rewarding to be a part of and witness lives being transformed and changed physically and spiritually.
We have a beautiful 26 year old daughter and 7 year old Granddaughter who live in Sacramento, California and a 3 year old cat who we brought over with us from Guam, She’s a true island cat. My hobbies include spending time with my family, painting and taking adventures to explore nature and cultures.
What do you like most about your work at the Boise Corps?
From the 8 months that I have been here, I have been able to see how we are able to reach our community through the various social service programs we have to offer. I am especially excited to provide leadership over the Salvation Army Booth Program in partnership with Cardinal Academy. We’ll continue our legacy of providing education, direct services and resources to pregnant teens and young parents so that they can be successful in obtaining their life long goals and being amazing parents.
What was the best parenting advice you ever got as a mom?
I would say the best parenting advice I received was to love your children and always be there for them no matter what.
What are your hopes for this program?
My hopes for this program would be that through our partnership with Cardinal Academy we can help provide a strong support network for those students. That they would never feel alone and that we’ve got them! We can help them succeed and become the person and parent they dream to be.
